Herndon native Shawn "Blazay" Ballard, 35, was driving early on Sunday, Nov. 10 with 48-year-old Nicole Hamm in the area of North Shore Drive and Charter Oak Court in Reston when their 2016 Ford Explorer veered off the roadway and struck the tree, according to police.
Both were rushed to an area hospital, where they later died from their injuries, leaving loved ones reeling.
Following the fatal crash, support has been swelling for Ballard's young family, with thousands of dollars raised as they hope to give him a proper sendoff and asked friends and neighbors to "storm heaven with prayers."
"This loss has struck us all deeply, but none more so than for his three children, Josiah, Isaiah 'Ozzie' and Chloe, his mother, Lynette as well as his siblings and nieces/nephews," Ballard's cousin said. "His passing will leave a void in our hearts forever.
"I'm sure we all know; nobody really plans for this kind of thing," Shanna Jenkins added. "The final expenses can be incredibly overwhelming, especially during a time like this."
Ballard was remembered by his family for being the life of the party, "no matter what he was dealing with."
"He always showed so much love towards those around him, and he will truly be missed."
"It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my son’s father’s passing," another tribute stated. As young people, we don’t always have the foresight to plan for moments like this.
"It’s a painful reminder that none of us are promised tomorrow, and it’s crucial to have our affairs in order for the sake of our loved ones."
"We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community and all who love Shawn," Jenkins added. "We completely understand if you cannot contribute monetarily, but please STORM HEAVEN with your prayers as we mourn this mighty loss."
